“ Intense love does not measure; it just gives.” - Gandhi

February 2010

I always get excited in January because I know in February Sharon and I start our traveling adventure  for a new year again. It has become like clockwork now. Each new trip introduces us to new places, new adventures,  and extraordinary people. Honduras is like our second home . Once we turn onto that long mountain road to Concepcion del Norte, its so exciting . We know we’re  close to being with our kids and our Honduran brothers and sisters.
We have been amazed at what we have been able to accomplish is such a short time with the help of so many gracious Americans. Because of monetary donations and ongoing individual sponsorships, Daisy’s Children has been able to provide our 28 children with the necessities that every child in this world should have. I look at our first photos from two years ago and our most recent photos and the changes are remarkable. Our kids are eating, going to school, getting medical treatment, clean water, and they are smiling. Kids that were once shy, withdrawn, and lethargic are now excited to be in school and learning. They have the energy to sit in class and follow directions because they are not sick and their bellies aren’t empty. It truly is a blessing and in many ways a miracle here on earth.
One of the highlights of this trip for me visiting our Sewing Center. We received enough sewing machines, material, and supplies to start teaching the mothers in our project how to sew. Lead by Aleta, one of the project moms, this small sewing group has taken off. They have been able to sew enough product to rent a building in the village as well as provide medical treatment for their children. This small cooperative  is open to any woman in the village who wishes to learn. It is very cool to be able to provide the materials and to see the women learning a trade. Self sustainability is very important to Daisy’s Children . These women are on their way to changing their futures and their children’s futures.
There was a time ,really not so long ago ,when I would come home from these trips to Honduras and think, is this really what I am supposed to be doing? If someone would have told me five years ago that I was going to be someone’s “ Partner in Grime” I would have said they were crazy. The more I travel to this remote village, the more children I meet, and the more challenging it gets, the more I know that it’s exactly where I’m supposed to be. I don’t think that we are supposed to know why, or what for. People and opportunities are presented in our lives for a reason. More people need to stop asking why and just take that leap of faith. It will take you to places you never imagined.
