As more time is spent within the village, it has become an urgent awareness that what our priority needs to be is providing a clean, safe environment where we can insure that our children truly receive the full benefits of the nutritious food being purchased, medical intervention at an early stage, and ongoing hygiene. To this end we have rented a four bedroom, 2 bath house proximal to the center of the village of Concepcion del Norte. Terms were negotiated to allow us to pay a reasonable rental with a three year term. Our rent was based on our willingness to provide renovations and upkeep. Adjacent to the house is a yard beckoning for a playground and plantings. Our first service team will join us there in July to clean,paint, fence in the yard, build a playground and prepare the doors to open and welcome the most vulnerable of our family members. Our goal is to provide this free of charge to not only moms currently in our program but also to other moms who agree to either work, reenter school, or participate in some form of vocational programming with the anticipation that they will support their child entering kindergarten when age appropriate. Locals will be hired to oversee day to day operations under the guidance of Maria Elena, our Honduran partner. Moms will be asked to assist 1-2 days per week in lieu of payment. At the root is our true belief that the road out of poverty is based on a hand 'up'.
