This is the family whose story launched the effort known as Daisy’s Children. Deysi Suyapa Madrid Chavez, was a 24 year old mother of four who died on May 5, 2008. She would receive food from the village church through the pastor’s wife, Maria Elena Paz. She would feed her children rather than eat herself. She is survived by her 31 year old spouse, Carlos Roberto Paredes Herrera and her four children. The youngest, Maria Ernestina Paredes Madrid, 2, currently resides with a Menonite family in central Honduras in the community of Eden. The three remaining children live with their father, a paternal aunt, her spouse, and their own three children. Roberto Carlos is the only son and at age three still requires formula. Carla Jaquelin is six years old. The eldest child, Joyeis Leticia, is only 7 years old. Current photos indicate that she may require a visit with an opthamologist to correct some vision issues. I am determined that these children WILL NOT follow their mother ,but rather, with God’s grace, be given the opportunity to thrive and carry their mother’s sacrifice as a blessing rather than a burden.
